What it is:
For under $1.50/day you can be a part of changing a child’s life. Your membership allows you to sponsor a child or youth to join our program. You’ll receive updates and learn how your support is creating lasting change.

Examples of what your financial support pays for:
Art Therapy- collage, acrylic painting, drawing, photography
Music and Drama Therapy- group songs and song writing
Dance Therapy- afro-centered choreography, dance wear, and music

Why it is important:

We create safe spaces where mentees can begin to engage in effective dialogue and creative activities. This allows them to address issues that are commonly faced by Black children and youth while gaining insight on how to navigate a paradigm that continues to result in poor social outcomes.

“I would love to attend something like that again, It was an amazing place where I felt I could be myself and engage with others without feeling judged. It was such an open space I felt the need to embrace who I am and get to know everyone and engage with them. It was definitely one of my highlights by far. I loved the first speakers who came in and spoke about there background (and) what grounds them to their culture. ”

“My time with Queen B from being an initial university volunteer to the Saskatoon Team Lead represents a huge amount of personal and professional growth for me. I developed many skills and attributes that are essential to becoming a successful health professional. My motives for pursuing medicine align with why the Afro-Mentorship Initiative was created. The negative impacts of underrepresentation of blacks within the medical system is why I want to pursue medicine, specifically becoming an OB/GYN to make a difference through my dedication to ensuring black women have a smooth and positive birthing journey from conception to delivery.”
